The Key To Writing Relevant and Interesting Blog Posts

The key/secret to writing relevant and interesting blog posts lies in the answer to the fundamental blogging question “who are my target audience?”. As a blogger, the relevancy and quality of your blog posts depends on how well you understand/know your target audience (demographic). When creating your content, you should always keep in mind exactly who you’re writing for. You need to know your audience, know what they expect and know what they want.

So many unsuccessful bloggers often ask questions like why is the traffic to my blog very low?, why are my blog posts not ranking on the first pages of the google search results?,why are people not commenting on my blog posts?, whys is the page views to my blog very low? Why is the bounce rate to my blog very high? etc. They ask all the above questions because they publish many of their blog posts without asking and answering the fundamental blogging question; who are my target audience?.

Verily verily i say unto you, until you know who the target audience of your blog are, that,s when you will start writing relevant and interesting blog posts. No matter the niche of your blog, you must answer the fundamental blogging question to be able to write relevant and quality blog posts. In addition to that, if you understand your target audience, you will never run out of blogging ideas.

In order to perfectly understand who the target audience of your blog are, you must answer the following questions.

What are the ages of the people likely to be interested in the topic (niche) of my blog?

What are their sex?

What are their level of Education?

What country are they from?

What is their religion?

What are their lifestyle/culture?

What  information will they likely be interested in?

The narrower or more specific your choice of niche is, the more accurate the answer to the above essential questions will be and higher your probability of meeting the exact needs of your target audience hence the reason why bloggers who create blogs based on very specific topic (niche) are more likely to be successful than the bloggers who blog on  general topic (big niche). The more specific your niche is the higher the probability (chances) of understanding the exact needs of your target audience and the higher the probability of satisfying their needs.

Trying to provide information to everyone and anyone (i.e. weight loss tips for every sex, age and condition) leads to not really focusing on one specific type of persons issues and missing the mark. When you really focus on one specific type of person you can more effectively understand their needs and write relevant and quality blog posts to effectively satisfy their needs.

How the answers to the fundamental blogging questions can enable you to write relevant and quality blog posts.

What is the age group of the people likely to be interested in the topic (niche) of my blog?

If you know the age group of the audience of your blog you will be able to know the type of information that will appeal to such age group, you will also be able to perfectly hand pick the words, slangs, analogies and examples to use in your blog posts. Understanding the age group of your target audience will also enable you to determine how long your blog posts should be. There are behaviours peculiar to all age group that you need to consider when writing your blog posts. For example, Adolescence and teenagers often have a short attension span and are not patient enough to read a very long blog posts. Infact adolescence and teenagers are often intimidated by long posts. If its very compulsory that you must write a long posts, try to break the texts in to many short paragraphs. On the other hand the adults who are often sedentary and patient will have no problem reading a long blog post.

But how do i know the age group of my target audience?

You can determine the age group of your target audience by asking yourself this question; which category of people will likely be interested in the topic (niche) of my blog?. If you wish to blog about the lifestyle of Justin Bieber, you don,t need to be told that your target audience will be people within 5 to 25 age group. Use your common sense!!!.

What are their sex (male or female or both)?

Again by asking yourself the question; which category of people will likely be interested in the topic (niche) of my blog? and using your common sense, you will also be able to determine the sex of your target audience. If you know the sex of your target audience, you will be able to know the choice of words, slangs, analogies and examples that will appeal to them. You can also eliminate the need for this answer by creating a specialize blog that is geared towards satisfying the need of a particular sex (either the male or the female audience). For example if you are interested in starting a blog in the weight loss niche, you can decide to pick a very specific niche in the weight loss niche like weight loss for post pregnancy women. By focusing of Post Pregnancy Women, you will indirectly make your job of creating relevant and quality content very easy. Like i mentioned earlier, the narrower or more specific your choice of niche is, the more accurate the answer to these essential questions will be and higher your probability of meeting the exact needs of your target audience

What are their level of Education?

The main reason why the readership of many blogs is very low is because many bloggers don,t ask themselves this question before writing their blog posts. As a blogger, you should be aware that your  blog readership is made up of 3 kinds of audience which include; the novice audience, the intermediate audience and the expert audience. The novice audience have little or no prerequisite knowledge about a particular subject/topic. The intermediate audience have the prerequisite knowledge or basic but are not aware of all the jargons of a particular subject. The expert audience already knows many things about the subject and are willing to know more or update their wealth of knowledge hence the reason why they come to your blog.

Since the novice audience make up majority (the bulk) of the audience of every blog, you should write in simple language and explaining every jargon so that the novice can understand and by doing that, you will indirectly kill 3 birds with one stone i.e. if the novice can comprehend, the intermediate and the expert learners will also comprehend the topic and very easily.

More hints on writing quality blog posts.

If you wish to blog about the basics of a particular subject, then you should assume that your target audience are people who know little or almost nothing about the subject and so you should write your blog posts excluding jargons.

Nevertheless the best way to write a blog post is to assume that your target audience knows little or almost nothing.

On the otherhand, if your target audience are intermediate learners, you don,t need to waste time explaining the basics. For example when writting my article about search engine optimisation optimisation (how to make a webpage to appear on the first page of the Google search results), i used many blogging jargons because i assume the target audience are people who have already grab the basics.

The easiest way not to waste time explaining jargons (which may make your blog posts  very long), is to create many short “what is” blog posts  on your blog that explains the jargons and then linking to those pages whenever you use the jargons so that those people who don,t understand the jargons in your niche can go to those “what is” pages to read about it. For example in my blog, i have created many short “WHAT IS” articles like what is a blog, what is SEO?, What is a niche? what is a backlink?, whenever i use the terms blog, SEO, Niche, Backlinks and other jargons, i often link them to their respective “What is” articles.
