What is a web page?

Every web site is made up of web pages. Web pages serve as containers for the information or files found in websites (web servers).

Web pages enables the contents of websites to be displayed on our browser in an organized manner. Related web files or information are often published on a single web page.

It should be noted that a website is just like a house in the virtual world (internet). Just like a house is made up of various rooms and each room has furnitures, electronics and equipments that makes it suitable for a particular purpuse, a web site is also made up of web pages (web rooms) and each web page (web room) contains information and web files that makes it suitable for people with a particular need.

Just like the contents (furnitures, electronics, equipments and other properties) of a house are put in to seperate rooms like Parlour, dinning room, bed room, kitchen, bathroom and other sections of the house, each web page which is just like one of the rooms of a web site (an e-house), contains webfiles or information that are often different from that of other web pages (web rooms).

Just like a room in a house has things which makes it suitable for a particular purpose, each web page of a website also has information or files that makes it suitable for internet users with a particular need. If you want to watch TV, you go to the Parlour, if you want to cook, you go to the kitchen and if you want to take your bath, you go to the bathroom. Most achitect design a house that way to make it more habitable.

Can you live or visit a house that the furnitures, electronics, Kitchen Utensils, toilet  and other household equipments are located in one room? ofcourse hell no! because the house will obviously look like that of a mad person (it will be inhabitable), similarly, a web site with contents jumbled (mixed) together can,t look attractive in a web browser. Most web visitors won,t stay long in such a web site.So the contents of websites had to be put in to seperate pages; with each page containing specific but related info or web files.

The internet users will have to move (navigate) from one web page (web room) of a web site (e-house) to another through links in order to access various information or contents published on a website just like a house owner moves from room to room, to do various things. The various webpages (web rooms) of a website are connected through links. When you type the web address of a website in to a browser, you will land on the web page of the website. The home page of a website contains links to all the web pages on a website. From the home page you can then navigate to any page of the website by clicking on the various web page links depending on the information or webfile you wish to access. You click on some text or an image, and a new web page (with a specific information and web files) loads in your browser.A link to a web page is displayed, by default, in blue, with an underline e.g what is a webpage?. Most web sites are made up of thousands of web pages with each web page containing specific info and webfiles.

bookpageFor example, this web site has so many web pages and each web page has information or webfiles that,s suitable for people with a particular need. If i need to publish an article on my blog, i will need to create a specific web page for that  article. I can,t write all my articles in one page. Just like its impossible to have just one exercise book for many different subject.

Many web sites contain the contact info of the webmaster (website owner), Privacy policy info, About us info and articles. All those informations are often published in a web site in seperate pages like the contact us page, Privacy Policy pageAbout Us page, what is a web page?. Each page contains a specific content. For example the contact us page contains the contact info of the site owner. Any web visitor who wants to contact the site owner will have to click the contact us page link go to the Contact Us page of the website; there he/she will find the contact info of the site owner. The privacy policy page contains the rules and regulations of the site and the About Us page contains the biography of the site owner. All those unrelated info can,t be put in a single page and published on the World Wide Web.

The contents of websites are put in to seperate pages to make the contents of websites presentable and more accessible on the World Wide Web. Each webpage contains information about a particular topic (texts) and web files like pictures, videos and audio files that are relevant to the topic. For example, this web page (what is a web page?) has info about the above topic and also attached pictures and YouTube videos that are relevant to the topic in order to make the topic more understandable.

So each webpage can contain a combination of various web files as long as the web files are related. Just like a room of a house can contain various properties as long as those properties are related and makes the room more confortable. Nowadays, there are many bathrooms that have TV which is ok because it makes a bathroom more confortable but on the other hand, you can,t have a toilet in your parlour or dining room. It will make your dinning room or parlour very unconfortable to your guest (house visitors).

Now that you know what web pages are and their importance, you may likely be tempted to ask; how are web pages created?.
